Romeo and Juliet, 2021.
A ground-breaking CGI theatre production created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August 2020 Metcalfe Gordon Productions started the process of producing a filmed Romeo and Juliet set in a theatre and completed through the use of Greenscreen and CGI, during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was offered the role of Costume Designer.
With a tight budget and time frame the work had to be done precisely and quickly. I looked into Romeo and Juliet, the themes, the history, and then also looked at modern day developments and issues. I also was able to analyse the script and get to know the requirements for each costume.
My role included designing for character, sourcing the costumes from charity shops, online sources and the actors own wardrobes, and managing the costumes. As I wasn’t allowed in the rehearsal room or studio, everything had to be prepared before with costume plots, so the actors knew exactly what to wear.
